COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The second annual River Center Soap Box Derby was held in Columbus.
The event mixes fun with education by combining “STEAM-based learning” with exciting activities for local kids.
STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The soap box derby allows kids to see their efforts play out in real life as they race the cars they have built over the past four months.
“Soap box derby benefits any child from every background,” says Leshan Ferguson with Let’s Grow STEAMx. “Kids get to build on 21st-century skills like team building, critical thinking and communication.”
The derby was hosted in Midtown Columbus at Lake Bottom Park.
