Recognizing excellence in STEAM studies, Let’s Grow STEAMx presents the YCCExpo Student Ambassador Award. This prestigious accolade honors high school students who showcase exceptional dedication, innovation, and leadership in the STEAM pursuits. Selected individuals with a GPA of 2.5 or better, who exhibit a profound interest in STEAM activities, are eligible to submit a 250-word essay reflecting on how these activities have impacted their education. With the support of a teacher, counselor, or administrator recommendation, we aim to encourage and empower the future leaders of STEAM, fostering a bright path for these promising young minds. As a STEAM Ambassador, recipients will receive an award, a scholarship to a STEAM summer camp or internship, $250 cashier’s check, and opportunities to represent STEAM initiatives at Let’s Grow STEAMx events. Ambassador application opens Monday, October 16, 2023, and closes Friday, December 1, 2023.

Aisha Bowe is a former NASA rocket scientist, motivational speaker and serial entrepreneur. Her seven-figure companies have been recognized by Inc. Magazine and her clients include tech giants such as: Microsoft, GE, and Siemens — all without outside capital. As an aerospace engineer who started her degree with pre-algebra in a community college, Aisha is on a mission to help youth break stereotypes, stop internalizing false narratives and pursue careers in STEM
(science, technology, engineering, and math).
Aisha regularly shares her story and message of self-empowerment in interviews and presentations worldwide. She speaks often as part of the US State Department’s speakers’ program and has been the subject of many articles including in Entrepreneur Magazine, Inc.com, Fast Company, Wired, and Shondaland. She was a featured guest on NBC LX as well as The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Tamron Hall Show, two of the most highly rated daytime talk shows in the United States. In addition, she was the subject of an Olay/BET public service announcement promoting women’s empowerment.
Aisha holds a B.S.E in Aerospace Engineering and an M. Eng. in Space Systems Engineering, from University of Michigan. She has received numerous awards for her dedication to technical excellence and the principles of diversity and opportunity. Aisha is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). She currently sits on the University of Michigan Aerospace Department Industry Advisory Board.

In-Person
The in-person experience is designed for students to explore interactive opportunities with exhibitors and colleges. Each year a cohort of students will engage in the onsite activities. This year all 11th graders will have access. Exhibitors will share their companies values and engage students with an activity. Probe College Fair will be onsite with over 50 colleges and universities for students the find out more information, apply, and possibly receive provisional admission. Lastly, the opportunity to hear from our keynote speaker who’ll shed light on how art elevates dreams.
In-Person

Mock Interview
Job interviews can be challenging, as we know. Communicating with confidence takes practice. Area HR and career professionals will offer mock interviews at the virtual YCCExpo. These volunteers work with students and offer positive, constructive feedback that will help students for their next real interview, whether it’s for a job, internship, or college admission. Mock interviews are for 7th-12th grade students only. Acknowledge your interest during the registration process.
Ambassador Award
In alliance with the city of Columbus through our partnership with our Expo Ambassador, City Manager Isaiah Hughley, we will present the Ambassador Award up to five (5) deserving students. This award acknowledges the demonstrated achievements and ability of promising high school students in STEAM-related pursuits and celebrates the hard work, diligent study habits, and innovative ideas displayed by students during the school year.
We ask each school to nominate a student to be considered for the Ambassador Award. From those nominations, the top candidates will be chosen and honored at a breakfast the morning of YCCExpo, and one of those students will be awarded the Let’s Grow STEAMx Ambassador Award. For eligibility information and to submit your school’s nominee, please click the button below.
